Officer candidates joined us again at the North Columbus Boys & Girls Club on March 23, 2011. Their visit is part of a mentoring relationship we have established with the Army Officer Candidate School in Fort Benning.

Shop With A Cop

Recently, twenty of our club members went shopping with men and women of the Columbus Police Department as part of a charitable event organized by the Fraternal Order of Police. Each participating child was given $100 to spend on a one-day shopping spree.

Jarvus – Elizabeth Canty Junior of the Month

Jarvus, 6, was honored as Junior of the Month for November at our Elizabeth Canty club. Proving himself to be a take-charge club member by helping out in any way he can, Jarvus always demonstrates a positive and respectful attitude at the club and provides an example for his fellow club members. When he’s not impressing his teachers at Davis Elementary School, he likes to help his mother out around the house. He is a participant in all activities at the club, but his favorite is basketball.

The Haunted House at the J. Barnett Woodruff Boys & Girls Club on Friday (October 29th) was the culmination of two-and-a-half days and boatloads of creativity. While waiting for it to open, the kids played, had their faces painted, and discussed their Trick-or-Treat plans for the weekend.

Melanie – North Columbus Junior of the Month (August)

Melanie, 10, has been described by her unit leaders as “a brilliant club member.” The youngest of three siblings, she attends Britt David Magnet with some distinction, a reflection of the very qualities she demonstrates every day in the presence of fellow club members. Melanie participates in Torch Club, Sports Fitness Club, Power Hour, Smart Girls, and girls’ NFL Flag Football. Needless to say, she has great role to play as a future leader in the community.

At age seven, Daisha, a member of our J. Barnett Woodruff (South Columbus) unit, is already demonstrating her inner leader. At once precocious and confident, she has developed a positive rapport with her peers that attests to her distinction as kind, upbeat, and uncommonly attentive to the needs of her fellow club members. Daisha is a member of the cheerleading team, a Power Hour Exceptional Student, and, for her excellent example, J. Barnett Woodruff’s Junior of the Month for August.
